DESCRIPTION

Taiheiyo Club Gotemba Course is located in Gotemba City, Shizuoka Prefecture. It takes 20 minutes from Gotemba IC in Tomei Expressway by car. This course, opened in 1977, is designed by Shunsuke Kato the master craftsman.

Each hole is separated by rich pine and ceder trees. This course is the flagship course of the Taiheiyo Club, and the PGA event "Mitsui Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters" have been held every year from 1977. The winners of this events are very famous such as G.Norman, S.Ballesteros, J.M.Olazabal, Masashi Ozaki and Hideki Matsuyama. This course had finished total renovating in 2018 and it has became a tournament course of international standard. The renovation designer is Rees Jones the world-renowned designer who is brother of R.T.Jones Jr.. His belief is "Restoration" and he had designed more than 220 courses such as 7 United States Open Golf Championship courses and 8 United States Professional Golf Championship courses.

This course had been selected as stage of "WGC-EMC World Cup 2001" in November 2001 and 48 players from 24 countries had been gathered. On the final day of the tournament, T.Woods made the chip in eagle in the final 18th hole, and it was broadcast over the world as a miracle shot.

The OUT course starts the downhill par-4, and it has doglegs and ponds. The IN course has gentle undulations in the fairways but it is overall flat. There are some fairway bunkers, and it will feel little narrow when you hit the tee shot. The 6th hole is a par-5 dogleg hole to the right. As the second shot is very narrow, you should fly the tee shot for the right side of fairway. The 18th hole is a S-shaped par-5 hole that had made many dramatic scenes. Though the pond in right front of the green puts pressure for players, you should aim the green without hesitation.

The clubhouse is clean and relaxed design. It can be overlooked the green and the pond of the 18th hole from the restaurant.
